About Us

The Eyecare Clinic was established in 1990  by Dr. Bernadette McCarthy (Medical Eye Specialist) and Ms Ann Fogarty 
initially as a (Practice Manager and now as a Dispensing Optician) .

Our Eyecare Clinic has been recently refurbished to a high standard and is now equipped with cutting edge medical eyecare and diagnostic equipment.

Due to a high demand for our eye services the practice has progressively expanded over the years and now includes the following comprehensive Eyecare Team:

Karen Fennessy
Dr.Karen Fennessey

CONSULTANT OPHTHALMOLOGIST

M.B., Ch., B.A.O., B.Sc., A.F.R.C.Ophth.
A graduate in medicine from NUI Galway in 1997.  Having worked in general internal medicine and emergency medicine in Limerick And Waterford Regional Hospitals, Karen completed her associate fellowship In training in Ophthalmology in 2005. 

She has worked in community based practices since then providing medical eyecare for conditions Such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and Diabetes. She also carries out minor lid procedures. Her special interest is Paediatric Ophthalmology. 
Stephanie
Stephanie Fogarty

 OPTOMETRIST  

F.A.O.I.
  Stephaine is Eyecare Clinics  optometrist (F.A.O.I.), She graduated from Dublin Institute of  Technology in 2012 with her degree in Optometry.  
After 3 years work as a community Optometrist in Cork, She moved to the U.K. where she worked for the next 4 years.  In the Uk she was a refractive laser optometrist, where she carried out laser consultations and post – operative care on patients. She also worked again in Community Optometry, furthering her knowledge by being part of the Minor Eye Conditions Scheme and Cataract post – op examination Scheme ( through out her time in the U.K. she gained extensive experience with a wide range of eye conditions. In 2019 she returned to Ireland and is now delighted to be working as part of the team in EyeCare Ophthalmology.

Barbara Matanovic

 OPTOMETRIST 

B. Optom (Hons) 
Barbara graduated from the University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia and has been living in Ireland for the past 17 years. During this time she has worked in both private parctices and corporate chains. In recent years she has expanded her knowledge in Children’s eyecare and Myopia (Short sightedness).
Matthew Costello 
SENIOR ORTHOPTIST

PGDip BSc(Hons) 

 Matthew graduated with a degree in Orthoptics from the University of Liverpool in 2013. He worked in hospitals across the East Midlands in the UK before completing his postgraduate diploma in Vision and Strabismus at the University of Sheffield in 2017. Following this he took up a post specialising in post stroke visual rehabilitation in Manchester before moving to Ireland in 2018. He currently works in the HSE in County Kilkenny and County Carlow. 

 As an Orthoptist Matthew specialises in eye movement and visual development disorders in children and adults including amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (squints) and diplopia (double vision). He also carries postgraduate master’s level qualifications in Low Vision from the University of Sheffield and Glaucoma advanced practice from Aston University.
